Spotify has introduced a new feature that allows users to listen to long-form magazine articles directly within the app. The functionality is rolling out across all 22 markets where Spotify Audiobooks are currently available.

With this new addition, Spotify Premium subscribers can access audio versions of magazine stories at no extra cost through their existing monthly audiobook listening allowance. Meanwhile, non-premium users will have the option to purchase articles individually.

Spotify Expands Beyond Music and Podcasts

The company says the new feature is designed to bridge the gap between podcasts and audiobooks by giving users another form of long-form audio content to explore. According to Spotify, each article available on the platform is under two hours long and is currently offered in English.

The platform’s growing library already includes more than 650 narrated magazine articles from major publications such as:

  • Rolling Stone
  • The Atlantic
  • Vogue
  • Variety
  • Billboard
  • Vibe
  • GQ
  • WIRED
  • Vanity Fair
  • Pitchfork

Availability

Spotify confirmed that the feature is launching in the same regions where Spotify Audiobooks are currently supported. These include countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, UAE, South Africa, and several other global markets.

A New Way to Discover Content

According to Spotify, narrated magazine stories could help listeners discover more about artists, entertainment, culture, technology, and trends while spending more time within the platform’s ecosystem. The company also believes the feature will encourage podcast listeners to gradually explore longer-form content like audiobooks.
